We hope you
and your families are doing well! We
wanted to touch base with everyone with regards to the 2021 season.
Even though we are currently in a lock down, we are cautiously optimistic that there will be a 2021 summer soccer season for all youth and adult travel and house league divisions.
At this time, there are more questions than answers with many unknown factors to consider. We are unable to provide firm details, however we are planning for a season where our players can safely return to soccer in some capacity. Our goal is to be back on the pitch by June so we ask for your patience and understanding as we work with Ontario Soccer, the Niagara Soccer Association, the Town of Grimsby and Niagara Public Health to determine the structure and format of play.
When the lockdown is lifted, there are still restrictions in place by Phase (1, 2,3) and by Zone (Grey, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green) that will determine how the season is to be organized and scheduled. There is a significant amount of work to be done to plan for each Phase/ Zone to make sure the Club is prepared for each scenario.
In order to start 2021 season planning, the Club is urgently in need of volunteers for the following positions:
- House League Convenor(s)
- Sponsorship & Equipment Coordinator(s)
- Travel Coaches (Girls U8-2013, Boys U10-2011, BU15-2006)
- House League Coaches (all divisions)
Links to job descriptions for the three Board of Director positions are as follows:
- House League Convenor
- Sponsorship & Equipment Coordinator
Coach applications can be found on the Coach tab. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for any of these positions, please email the Club at [email protected]. We definitely encourage partnerships or teams of volunteers taking on these positions and there will be a lot of support from the Board of Directors and Club Administrator. Without volunteers, we won’t be able to run the Club so please consider joining us.
We are currently planning to open 2021 registration online in mid-February. When registration opens, we ask that you register players that INTEND to play soccer in 2021 so that we can accurately plan for the season. We will not be collecting fees when you register so please DO NOT submit payment. We will circle back to confirm registrations and collect player fees when a season start and format is determined. With regards to 2021 fees, we will be holding the 2020 rates. More details will be sent out and posted when registration opens.
The GTYSC is also looking for Match Officials (aka Referees) for the 2021 season. Training sessions will be held online. The Club requires Small Sided Match Officials to officiate 7v7 games (registrants must be 12 years of age by March 31) and also Entry Level Match Officials for 9v9 and 11v11 games (registrants must be 14 years of age by March 31). More information will be sent when course dates are confirmed.
We hope to see all of our soccer families back for a safe and healthy 2021 season. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely working with our governing bodies including Ontario Soccer, the Niagara Soccer Association, the Town of Grimsby and Niagara Public Health. As the situation progresses, we will provide updates via email and/or postings to this website.
Take care and stay safe!
