GTYSC 2020 Season Update – May 29
Submitted By GTYSC Administrator on Friday, May 29, 2020
Hello Grimsby Town Youth Soccer Club Families,

Unfortunately, there have been no updates from Ontario Soccer with regards to specific return to play dates for the 2020 season.  At this time, we know that Ontario Soccer is working closely with Canada Soccer, the Province of Ontario and public health, but the situation is still fluid.  What we know now is that the postponement of all soccer activities has been extended to the end of June.

The GTYSC Board is still optimistically working behind the scenes to plan for a 2020 season should the go ahead be given.  At this time, we are still planning for a season start on July 6th for our house league divisions as per the following:

Soccer School (U4-U6) , House League (U7/U18), Women’s 30+:

If we are able to have a 2020 season, we are tentatively planning to start on July 6.

Starting the season will be depend on the following critical key factors:

-       Sanctions lifted by Ontario Soccer and the Niagara Soccer Association.

-       Availability of fields.

-       Number of teams and enough teams to support each division. (ie. older children)

-       Possibility of extension of the season.  (ie. playing in September or on Saturdays)

These are all unknowns which impact planning for the season.

What we have determined:

-       There will be no house league WNISL Tournament this season.

-       A shortened season, starting as late as July 13 is still viable if games are played in September, Saturdays and/or on modified playing nights.

Youth Travel Teams (U8-U18) & Adult Travel Teams (NSL & PVSL):

The Club is in regular contact with the Niagara Soccer Association.  At this time, there have been no updates with regards to an NSL or PVSL season start date.  We will communicate any new information as it becomes available.  As per provincial and municipal mandates, all in-person training (even in groups of 5 or less) is still prohibited at this time.

The GTYSC can only anticipate and plan for a Return to Play.  Until Ontario Soccer is able to provide guidelines and protocols, there are many unknowns.

If Return to Play is not possible or if families cannot participate in soccer in 2020 for any reason (including financial, health-related or scheduling reasons), the GTYSC will refund registration fees in-full as per our revised 2020 Refund policy.  Please contact the Club to request a Refund form, if necessary.

Please direct all questions or concerns to [email protected] or  [email protected].

Thank you and stay safe!
